In the course of Bertha's career over the years, she took up a number of opportunities which presented themselves. Bertha successfully completed her journalism and broadcasting training over a decade ago at the BBC Millbank studio in Westminster. Bertha's training was surpervised by the now deceased, Mr. Keith Taylor, Bertha’s former European politics and the Media lecturer and tutor, at Westminster University. Keith Taylor was a political scientist who shared his natural gifts with the widest body of people. Whether writing scholarly texts, editing papers, teaching students, organising musicals or, latterly, campaigning for the rights of cancer patients, Taylor was in his element working for others”. Independent newspaper reports. Bertha's thoughts, memories and reflections of  the now deceased, Mr. Keith Taylor. Bertha is delighted to echo the views of the Independent newspaper about Mr. Keith Taylor and she added, "Mr. Keith Taylor was a gracious and polite man with great talent who cared very deeply for people and had excellent people management skills. Mr. Taylor was a modest gentleman of many accomplishments, who was not intellectually arrogant (very strong point). Mr. Taylor was a unique communicator and Bertha adored the way he would gently say "No" to politics, journalism and media studies students, but still leave their integrity intact".
Bertha's training at the BBC was undertaken under the direction of BBC’s highly regarded Shaun Ley and his talented team. Bertha gained first-hand insight, practical knowledge and understanding of broadcast journalism. Bertha is fortunate to have taken on the training  and she places a high premium on the experience and extraordinary training she gained at the BBC broadcasting studio. Broadcast journalism at the BBC

In her capacity as founder, owner and Director of okra eXpress, Bertha lead media activities with a foreign delegation from Japan to the London BBC broadcasting studio in October 2010. These media activities, set up by okra eXpress gave the Japanese delegation the opportunity to gain first hand feel of how news are broadcasted from the BBC London studio to Asia – Pacific, Africa and beyond. The Japanese delegation consisted of Mr. Takashi
Funaki, Director General, Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), and Mr. Kimiaki Jin, Chief Representative, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Mr. Masaaki Yamada, Chief Representative, Japan Bank for International Cooperation, (JBIC)okra eXpress and the BBC pre-arranged with the foreign delegation to arrive at the BBC studio before a live programme went out,  so that gave the Japanese delegates the concept of what the BBC does, and they also saw the programme go live. The Japanese delegation were intrigued by the work of the BBC. We finished off the evening activities with an informal chat over a variety of hot beverages in the BBC canteen. The Japanese delegation also met with the other BBC staff, including the Editors, producers, head of current affairs, and the technical team. Over 2000 delegates attended the conference and it was great to be in the presence of vibrant people with diverse and considerable talents, Bertha reported. Excerpt from Bertha's talk was published in a legal journal with global circulation. Sir John Harvey-Jones, MBE (formerly a British businessman and previous chairman of the Economist, and the then chairman of Imperial Chemical Industries, who was been best-known for his BBC television show, Troubleshooter, was at the conference. Sir John-Harvey-Jones eloquently and quite charmingly responded to the facts Bertha raised on the case for and against the UK joining the Euro.  In 1992, Sir John Harvey-Jones,  won a BAFTA for his Troubleshooter BBC series. During the rest time slots at the conference, Sir John Harvey-Jones, and Bertha had a lovely informal discussion about the EURO and the UK, the euro convergence criteria (Maastricht criteria),  which are the criteria for European Union member states to enter the third stage of European Economic Monetary Union (EMU) and adopt the EURO as their currency. The four main criteria are based on Article 121(1) of the European Community Treaty. This Treaty is well worth a read if you feel able! Sir John Harvey- Jones' positive and modest approach along with his degree of thoughtfulness, will ever LIVE in Bertha's memory. What a very remarkable gracious gentleman.

Bertha's participation at various debates in the European Parliament, European Commission, and NATO headquarters in Brussels over the past decade.

"Bertha takes great interests in European affairs. For the past decade, Bertha participated in seminars and debates held in the European Parliament, European Commission, and NATO headquarters in Brussels. Bertha participated very well on views on European Union issues, including business and politics in Europe, globalization and competitiveness, European Union Foreign Policy, European Union Security and Defence Policy, European Union Trade and Developmenet Policy. Bertha also carried out extensive research on European Union law, The European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights, The EU Working Time Directive (European Union Directive). The Maastricht Treaty, also known as the Treaty on European Union or TEU which was signed on 7 February 1992 by the members of the European Community in Maastricht, Netherlands. Bertha kept abreast with Constitutional and institutional change in the European Union, The European Constitution. also known as the unratified Constitutional Treaty, which was an international treaty intended to create a consolidated constitution for the European Union. (EU). And of cause, Bertha also kept abreast with with the Treaty of Lisbon which was created to replace the Constitutional Treaty. The Lisbon Treaty, incorporates many of the changes that were originally placed in the Constitutional Treaty but was formulated as amendments to the existing treaty which was signed on 13 December 2007, ratified and entered into force on 1 December 2009.

Hot pototoes? Financial irregularities - Banking saga. Wake up call >>>> Financial integrity - Bitter pill to swallow? Is taking risk your bread and butter? Creating value or running a risk.
Bertha correctly predicted the financial crisis, hence her Executive MBA thesis entitled, "Financial Regulations - The Need For A Reform - Lessons learned Post Enron and the Nat West Three - Prescription for Positive Way Forward. Bertha examnined ways to minimise the financial irregularities and better manage them by incorporating credible, and rock solid policies into workable practice and in line with legal, business, work and moral ethics. Examined ways to foster, adopt, embrace and implement, excellent and moral behaviours, frank, straightforward, fairness and accountabilities.  (Incidentally, the Nat West Three also known as the Enron Three, were sentenced to serve months in prison after a high-profile battle in the British and American courts.  Initially they were jailed in the US, but were later moved to UK prisons. They were released in August 2010). Bertha focused her case studies on the failed Barings Bank, rogue trading, former rougue trader, Nick Lesson's experiece and lessons learned, malpractice, false accounting and Arthur Andersen LLPand failed Crédit Lyonnais, (a French Bank which in the early 1990s was the largest French bank, majority state-owned at that point. It was reported that Crédit Lyonnais was the subject of poor management in the 1990s which nearly led to its bankruptcy in 1993). Bertha also examined other areas including, culture, client care, practice, ethics and standards of the banks, fraud and financial crimes, financial incentives, openness, transparency, corporate responsibility, immoral unethical and misleading marketing, economic crimes, corporate negligence,  unscrupulous behavious and abusing public trust which create liabilities directly and indirectly for others. Background Research: Failed, Parmalat, Worldcom, Allied Irish Bank. The European Commission and the Financial Services Authourity in the UK loomed large in Bertha's discussion. Various national and international legal experts and accounting specialists participated in the consultation including, PwC's Will Kenyon, Partner, Forensic services, specialised in economic crime and irregularities.

Let's talk
Sports. Let's hear it from Harry Redknapp, a popular, colourful character,  a modest and technically gifted football Manager in British Sports, who manages things quite cleverlyokra eXpress.

Harry Redknapp said. It’s not impossible for us to win the league. We have a chance.  It's going to be hard but we are not a bad side. We have some real quality. We can play and we have a good spirit.  . "Harry Redknapp”, born, Henry James, is a former English footballer who is the current manager of Tottenham Hotspur. Harry Redknapp was previously manager of Bournemouth, West Ham United, Portsmouth (twice) and Southampton. His son, Jamie Redknapp, played under him at Bournemouth and Southampton. Harry Redknapp is also uncle to Chelsea player Frank Lampard, who played under him at West Ham United. Former Leeds United midfielder and Republic of Ireland manaager, Jimmy Giles said Harry Redknapp had "very , very,  very good knowledge of the game and was "a good judge of a footballer and 80-90 per cent of successful management is about getting the right players in the club. You don't see him complicating it with big tactics or formations.

Communicating for 90 Minutes yet no words spoken?
Moving forward with the ball >>>>
"If you want to improve on your communication skills you can consider watching a ninety minute.s game of football. I mean actually attend a football match and occupy one of the ring sized benches to feel the experience and warmth with the football fans.  You do not need to know the rules of the game. It's always best to arrive at the football stadium early to observe the reactions of the people, (often football fans). It's really intriguing to watch the footballers in the field communicating with each other for ninety minutes without uttering a word in the process.  (It's like striking a note on the keyboard when playing the piano). The only thing that comes between the footballers is the ball. The ninety minutes manager would quitely occupy one of the benches as well, often with chewing gum in his mouth . The ninety minutes referee would communicate with the footballers using his whistle and colourful cards (Yellow and red), kept in his pocket. How fascinating.
Photo above, red and yellow cards used by the 90 minutes football referee. Misconduct may result in the football player either receiving a caution (indicated by a yellow card) or being dismissed from the field (indicated by a red card).   Misconduct in association football is any conduct by a football player that is deemed by the referee to warrant a disciplinary sanction (caustion or dismissal) in accordance with Law 12 of the Laws of the Game.

"The economics of football is intriguing. It's not where the ball is that matters. It's actually where the ball is going. Keep your eye on the ball all the time. Step up a gear and put your best leg in to show them what you are made of, what you stand for and what you are about. Try not to lose sight  of the ball. Take golden goal kicks, cause the ball belongs in the net as often as you physically can stike it. Bring the ball home = job well done. okra eXpress

Can I ask one question very briefly? Why do men wear boring BLACK shoes? It makes one wonder! okra eXpress
Is black the only colour they do? How about trying natural - earthy colours, like magnificent brown,  oatmeal, maroon, red wine, and if you are brave enough, burgundy, purple, maroon - Maroon is derived from French marron, (chestnut -Castanea).  You can try putting colours to your steps. Put a spring to your steps. Consider taking little baby steps if you feel able. Go for it. Earthy colours if you can - Brown goes very well with other colours. Brown also goes well with chinos, jeans, tailored trousers, jodhpurs, and the 1950's type pedal pushers >>> Brown is versatile, try it if and when you can." okra eXpress

HUMAN VALUE {…..But this isn’t just a calculation about what’s best for our economy. It’s also about what’s best for humanity. Gandhi talked about the danger of science without humanity……but science with humanity can be just about the most powerful force for good on earth. And we’ve got to keep pushing for progress. Yes, we’ve defeated some of the big killers of the past. But as old frontiers are conquered, new ones appear……lifestyle epidemics like obesity… …diseases like dementia and diabetes. There are huge areas of unmet need and we’re relying on your industry to come up with new answers……} Prime Minister, The Rt. Hon, David Cameroon, 5 December 2011

Clock strikes upon the HOUR, and the Sun begins to fade. Still enough TIME to figure out, how to chase my blues away. I've done alright up 'til now, it's the light of the day that shows me how. One moment in TIME. When I thought more than I should be. Each day I LIVE. I want to be. A day to give the best of  me.   I'm only one. But not alone. My finest day. Is yet unknown. "Talk less, and listen more if you are given the opportunity to do so. More action, less words. Take very due care that a reasonable person would adopt and be very cautious of what you say. Better-still choose your words very carefully. It is doable with ease. Before you consider to utter a word, think of the impact it will have on others. Put yourself in the listener's shoes. Try not to make someone feel inadequate when they are in your presence. Make it a fulfilling role to agree to disagree politely like civilised people do. You can still say "no" to them and disagree with their personal ill-thought and one sided views which bear no relevance to facts. But please leave their integrity intact without tearing them apart. You may end up at odds with people. Remember, agressiveness, leads to counter aggresiveness. Show them what you are made of. Send out soft punches and cushion the blows for them. Avoid unacceptable behaviours. It is uncalled for. You are responsible and accountable for what you say, it may be taken out of context. You words will come and hunt you when you least expect. Incidentally, you do not have to respond to everything you hear". okra eXpress
